A person learns that several generations lived with the same secret: debt, loss, a child given up, or a forced move. They do not put the family on trial. They find a safe way to acknowledge the fact and stop passing anxiety to children without an explanation.
Everyone in the family was practical, so creativity was treated as unserious. An adult finally makes time for music, writing, or a stage. It is not an escape from reality or a claim of superiority. It is the return of a part of the self that once had to be postponed.
